WHAT IS RALOXIFENE TABLETS 60MG USED FOR?
Raloxifene is a member of the SERM (selective oestrogen receptor modulator) medication class.
Raloxifene 60mg is used to prevent and treat osteoporosis (condition in which the bones become thin and weak and break easily) in postmenopausal (women who have experienced a change of life; end of menstrual periods) women. Raloxifene is also used to decrease the risk of developing invasive breast cancer (breast cancer that has spread outside of the milk ducts or lobules into the surrounding breast tissue) in postmenopausal women who are at high risk of developing this type of cancer or who have osteoporosis. Although raloxifene is not an estrogen hormone, it mimics its effects in specific areas of the body, such as the bones. Raloxifene has an estrogen-blocking effect in the uterus and breasts, among other organs. It doesn’t eliminate hot flashes or other menopause symptoms.
Raloxifene reduces blood levels of total and low-density lipoprotein (LDL), the two types of bad cholesterol, but it has no effect on blood levels of high-density lipoprotein (HDL), the “good” cholesterol.
In postmenopausal women who have osteoporosis or are at a high risk of developing invasive breast cancer, raloxifene is also used to reduce the likelihood of developing the disease.
